First For Safety offers Confined Spaces Safety Awareness training to meet the needs of employers under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and its regulations pertaining to Confined Spaces. In Ontario, Employers are responsible for ensuring that the requirements of OHSA and its regulations are complied with in the workplace and work sites or projects. This includes providing the proper training, equipment, and supervision for confined spaces work.

A confined space is a fully or partially enclosed space that is not designed to be regularly entered by a human, and in which atmospheric hazards may occur because of the spaces construction, location or contents, or because of the work intended to be done in it. Should you have any questions about what constitutes a confined space, you can refer to the Confined Spaces Guideline prepared by the Ministry of Labour.

The fines can be very serious as contravention of any of the requirements of the OHSA and its regulations is an offence which carries a maximum fine of $25,000 or imprisonment for a term of not more than twelve months, or both, for a person. The maximum fine for a corporation is $500,000 per offence.
