Standard First Aid (Blended) and BLS (HCP) CPR/AED


A bundled offering perfect for students that includes certifications both in the Canadian Red Cross Blended Standard First Aid & CPR/AED (online modules completed prior to attending the in-class portion) as well as the Basic Life Support (HCP) CPR/AED advanced skills training. Make time for the online modules which are self-paced and completed prior to attending. Lifesaving first aid and high performance cardiopulmonary resuscitation(CPR) skills and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training for those who need training due to work requirements, school practicum requirements and for those who want more knowledge on how to respond to emergencies in a more professional capacity. Course meets legislative requirements for provincial worker safety and insurance boards (WSIB in Ontario) for all workplaces/sites and includes the latest first aid and CPR guidelines.

CERTIFICATIONS:

  1. Standard First Aid & CPR/AED Certification valid for 3 years from date of issue; Recertification may be completed within the expiry date of an original certification. View our recertification course page for further details.
  2. Basic Life Support (HCP) Certification valid for 1 year from date of issue. Recertification may be completed annually within the expiry date.
  • Certificates (Digital, Print): Certificates are issued digitally usually 1-3 days from the course date. The Red Cross policy on issuing certificates is to have them to participants within 10 days, however, we like to get them out as soon as possible. If you require proof of training, please mention this to Jennifer upon registration or course date. We give everyone the option to have a complimentary printed wall certificate and laminated wallet card available for pick-up or mail.


SCHEDULE

STEP ONE: Register and complete online learning modules prior to attending in-class date. These are self-paced and can take approximately 6 to 8 hours depending on familiarity with the content.

STEP TWO: Attend a single day of training which includes the skills session for the Standard First Aid course from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, a lunch break, and then the BLS/HCP CPR/AED course from 1:30 PM to 5:00 PM.


AUDIENCE: In-facility and health care providers (nursing, care aides, dental industry, medical offices, etc.), pre-hospital care groups (fire department, rescue teams, sports therapists, lifeguards, SCUBA divers, ski patrol, first responders, search and rescue, etc.).


COURSE CONTENT: Standard First Aid content includes chapters on: The Red Cross, Preparing to respond, The EMS System, Check Call Care, Airway and Breathing Emergencies, Circulation Emergencies, First Aid for Respiratory and Cardiac Arrest, Life-threatening Wound Care, Head and Spinal Injuries, Bone, Muscle and Joint Injuries, Sudden Medical Emergencies such as diabetic shock, Environmental Emergencies, and Poisoning. BLS (HCP) skills include legal issues regarding consent, advanced directives, and abandonment; Assisted ventilation using a variety of resuscitation masks and BVM's (Bag Valve Masks); High-performance CPR with AEDs including 2-person and team-based CPR, brachial pulse checks, responder fatigue, and blood loss concerns; Choking and airway obstructions, Trauma response; Opioid overdose response including naloxone care; Six rights of medication; Post-cardiac arrest care in return of spontaneous circulation patients, including providing manual suction and knowing when supplemental oxygen is needed; High performance team communication including closed-loop communication, respect, and designated roles; and post-event debriefing.


COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Successfully complete online learning modules prior to in-class
  • Demonstrate skills and critical steps with proficiency
  • Min. 75% mark on the written knowledge evaluation
  • Attend and participate in 100% of the in-class course


PARTICIPANT MATERIALS: Comprehensive Guide to First Aid & CPR (eBook), Standard FA Certificate, BLS/HCP Certificate, Classroom copy of the CRC First Aid Manual to borrow during course, Certificate of Completion and Training Record for Employers (available upon request).

  • Student pricing: $175 + HST per Participant
