Youth Emergency First Aid & CPR/AED (Ages 12-16)

The Canadian Red Cross' one-day course offering lifesaving first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation(CPR) skills and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training specifically for youth ages 12 to 14. Learn to respond to emergencies at home, camp, sporting events, and in early jobs such as babysitting. Course also meets legislation requirements for provincial worker safety and insurance boards (WSIB in Ontario) for workplaces/sites of up to 5 employees, and includes the latest first aid and CPR guidelines.


COURSE CONTENT: Content includes chapters in The Red Cross, Preparing to Respond, The EMS System, Check Call Care, Airway and Breathing Emergencies, Circulation Emergencies, First Aid for Respiratory and Cardiac Arrest, Life-threatening Wound Care. All the same content as our regular courses but with the learning shaped for youth and situations responding to emergencies with family and friends.


PREREQUISITES:

  • Youth must be age 12 to 14 at the time of the course.
  • Participants must have a valid email address (not shared with a family member) in order to have their training registered with the Red Cross and to receive certification.


CPR LEVEL: CPR Level C (Infant, Child, Adult)


SCHEDULE: 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM; A 30 minute lunch period as well as two short breaks (AM/PM) are provided throughout the training session.


CERTIFICATION: Certification valid for 3 years; Certificates provided digitally. No re-certifications of Emergency First Aid & CPR/AED in Ontario, though participants can complete the same 1-day course every three years as needed.


COMPLETION:

  • Successfully demonstrate skills and critical steps
  • Min. 75% mark for written knowledge evaluation
  • Attend and participate in 100% of the course
